Swedish Massage is what normally comes to mind when people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. But our Swedish massage goes beyond relaxation because we know you can’t relax if you have pain and soreness.  We’ll incorporate techniques to reduce your pain all while concentrating on relaxing you. It’s a great combination!  You’ll also see we don’t have a “Deep Tissue” massage in our services.  That’s because we’ll discuss how much pressure you want before the massage starts, we won’t list a “Deep Tissue” massage separately and charge you more. This massage is done with you dressed down to your comfort level. However, regardless of the level of dress, you are always professionally draped to maintain your privacy and dignity.

The Hot Stone Massage is a form of “thermotherapy” in which hot stones are positioned on specific areas of the client’s body and allow for greater deep tissue manipulation. The stones used for a hot stone massage are usually basalt stones which are chalky grey in color but turn dark once oil is applied to them.  For the treatment, the stones are heated to 130 degrees F. and placed strategically along the spine and/or between the toes. The therapist gently rubs the stone into muscles and tissues on both sides of the body; the firmness of the stone couples with the heat enhances the therapeutic benefits of the massage. Hot stone massage performed by a certified therapist, such as ours, can help relax the body’s muscles and soft tissues, alleviate pain, improve circulation and help rid the body of toxins.

This type of massage treatment can also reduce stress, promote calmness and increase relaxation. Many hot stone massage enthusiasts even claim they experience a sense of enlightenment, inner peace and renewed spirituality after a hot stone massage session. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. You will see that the hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation. This massage is done with you dressed down to your comfort level. However, regardless of the level of dress, you are always professionally draped to maintain your privacy and dignity.

Pregnant Women can begin massage therapy at any point in their pregnancy – during the first, second, or third trimester. Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Carrying a baby inside of you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you’re carrying and you may find you have an aching lower back. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). In addition, massage reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, and helps to relax nervous tension-which aids in better sleep-and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. It’s always a good idea to get clearance from your doctor or midwife before getting a prenatal massage.

We take extra care to ensure you are comfortable during your prenatal massage. You will lay on your side supported with soft body cushions, this alleviates the extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas when the pressures of massage techniques are applied. Extra strain in these areas can cause unnecessary back pain and discomfort. Through the second trimester of pregnancy, it is also acceptable for you to lie on your back with a small cushioned wedge placed under one hip which provides a slight elevation. This massage is done with you dressed down to their comfort level. However, regardless of the level of dress, you will always be professionally draped in accordance with state laws to maintain your privacy and dignity.  All of our therapists received training on prenatal massage and have numerous hours of experience to provide this treatment to you.

Couples massage is one of the most popular services at the spa right now. Two people are massaged in the same room, at the same time, by two different therapists. It can be a husband and wife, girlfriend and boyfriend, best friends, or even moms and daughters. The treatment rooms at Serenity Spa & Wellness Center are large enough for two massage tables. So accommodating couples is no problem for us.

Couples massage is a great way to introduce a partner who has never gotten a massage before in a way that makes them feel more comfortable the first time. Some men are apprehensive about getting a massage because of the level of dress involved, and to have their wife or girlfriend there is reassuring. As for couples massage etiquette, it’s fine to talk to each other through the massage if you want, or be quiet the whole time. It’s really up to you.

Any of our Massage or Wellness Services can be scheduled as a Couples Massage.  Because of the diverse massage modalities we are trained in, the couples massage we offer can be customized to your liking. If one partner wants a Hot Stone Massage while the other wants a Swedish, we can do it. We can even make the massage as long as you wish, 60 minutes, 90 minutes or even 120 minutes; It really is all about you. Our price for the couples massage is the same as if you each came in separately or at the same time in separate rooms.  While there is no “Couples Massage” option in our online booking system, if you want to book online you simply book an individual massage with each therapist at the same time.
